Research Projects
We are working on a number of research projects related to the use of the R programming language with massive data sets in transplantation.
I also have collaborations with other centers to implement HIV D+/R+ thoracic transplantation programs. See HOPE Thoracic respository for further details.
Cost-Effectiveness & Health Economics
Cryptococcus Cost Analysis ACTIVE
This project seeks to use the United States Renal Data System to study the additional cost attributable to an episode of cryptococcus after kidney transplantation. Longitudinal matching between patients with cryptococcus and similar controls without is used to calculate the attributable cost.
Methods: claims data, cost modeling, health economics

Cryptococcus Donor Screening CEA ACTIVE
Decision-analytic cost-effectiveness modeling of donor cryptococcal screening strategies in solid organ transplantation.
Methods: CEA, decision analysis, Monte Carlo simulation

Research Infrastructure & Methods
Ellmer PubMed ATC 2026 Abstract Pipeline ACTIVE
Automated literature extraction and structured summarization from 100 PDFS using LLMs, with the results extracted directly into R. The pipeline uses the ellmer package to facilitate the analysis.
Methods: automation, LLM, structured extraction

HIV & Solid Organ Transplant Outcomes
HIV-SLK Outcomes ACTIVE
This project seeks to use the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients to compare outcomes after simultaneous liver-kidney transpantation in peope with and without HIV.
Methods: registry analysis, SRTR, survival modeling

Geographic Access & Equity
HOPE-CDC Analysis 2026 ACTIVE
Geospatial evaluation of access to HIV-experienced transplant centers across the United States.
Methods: ACS, isochrone analysis, sf, transplant registry
